Carefully crafted from the shell of a historic newspaper press, our hotel is an intimate experience limited to 10 rooms featuring soaking tubs, high ceilings, handcrafted furniture and other unique amenities designed to exceed your expectations of comfort and enjoyment.
The hotel evokes the early history of downtown Tucson and the terroir of the Sonoran Desert region from the quartz entry to our Arizona clay walls in tones of desert vistas to in-room wine refrigerators and mini bar stocked with Sand Reckoner wine, local beer and snacks.
Oversized spa bathrooms include granite showers with resting bench, double vanities, cedar lined closets, spa robes and luxury toiletries and soaking tubs with wine caddies and a pass through window to the room.

Sand Reckoner Vineyards, one of Southern Arizona’s premier wineries, comes to The Citizen Hotel Tucson by way of France, Australia and California. After making wines across the globe, Rob Hammelman and Sarah Fox deliberately chose the high Sonoran Desert for its unique terroir which speaks to classic Mediterranean and high-altitude wine regions without having a direct precedent in any. Sand Reckoner brings an appreciation for craft and terroir to the up-and-coming Willcox AVA and is helping to define the future of the region as characterized by well-crafted, minimal intervention wines that highlight the terroir of the high Sonoran Desert.
Wine Programming
Citizen Hotel Tucson boasts a full wine program that begins in our basement with Sand Reckoner Cellar and extends up through our lobby bar and into our second-floor mezzanine. We have incorporated this experience fully into our design as our mezzanine looks down into our bar above the more than 150 barrels of Arizona sangiovese, tempranillo, sagrantino, tannat and syrah housed by Sand Reckoner.
Lobby Bar
Offering finely made craft cocktails, local beer and wine - our bar is shining a spotlight on Arizona's three designated American Viticultural Areas, unique the world over in elevation, soil profile and expressing terroir. Our wine and bar programming highlights Arizona + the best of the southwest. We do this through regionally inspired cocktails and presenting wines crafted with care and attention to terroir, varietal, and minimal intervention wine making that lets the grapes speak for the land and themselves. The Citizen places Arizona wine in a global conversation - pouring wines from other influential regions that share aspects of our climate, landscape, and passion.
